Ethnomusicology Defined

Study human musicality and the interactions of people with their sonic environment. As a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary field of study, ethnomusicologists often intersect different approaches that are drawn from music, musicology, anthropology, history, dance, performance, folklore, gender, Indigenous studies, and religious studies. The primary methodologies to understand music in its sociocultural context are ethnographic fieldwork, participant observation, and historical research.
