Orientation
Field School Orientation will consist of 2 virtual sessions hosted over Zoom and includes 1 IFR General Session and 1 Program Specific Session.
IFR General Orientation
Our IFR General sessions will cover health and safety, general travel information, and other topics to help you begin preparing for your field school. It will also allow include time to ask questions.
SUMMER: The IFR General Orientation Session will be offered multiple times for summer students, but you should only attend one session. It’s best to attend the General Session before your Program Specific Session.
WINTER: IFR typically hosts a single IFR General Orientation session for winter students. If you are unable to attend at this time, please email admissions@ifrglobal.org to schedule a makeup session.
ALL: Please register in advance for your IFR General Orientation session by clicking on the linked date and time below. Note that times are listed as ET and PT, so be sure to adjust for whatever time zone you may be in.

- Thur. Mar. 5 @ 4pm EST/ 1pm PST
- Tue. Mar. 24 @ 11am EST/ 8am PST
- Wed. Apr. 8 @ 3pm EST/ 12pm PST
- Fri. Apr. 17 @ 2pm EST/ 11 am PST
- Tues. Apr. 28 @ 4pm EST / 1pm PST
- Wed. May 6 @ 8pm EST/ 5pm PST
- Mon. May 11 @ 7pm EST/ 4pm PST
Orientation is required for program participation, so please email in advance if you need to change your registration.
IFR Program Specific Orientation
Your Program Specific Orientation will cover information specific to your program like detailed arrival information, academic preparation, and other site-specific considerations. It also provides a time to meet your program director and fellow participants. We encourage you to come prepared with questions.
Program Specific Orientations are usually held about 4-6 weeks before your program start date and will be communicated to you in the spring for summer programs, and in late fall for winter programs.
