Do you have a camera roll full of memories from your IFR field school adventures? Whether you’ve unearthed ancient artifacts, forged unforgettable friendships, or explored breathtaking landscapes (and hopefully all of the above), this is your chance to share those memorable moments with the IFR community, and win some great cash prizes in the process. Here are the details for our summer 2024 contest.
PRIZES
One winner in each photo category will receive a $150 Visa gift card. The winner of the short video category will receive a $300 Visa gift card.
CATEGORIES
Cultural Landscapes [photo]
Highlight the unique cultural and natural landscapes that shaped your field school experience. Ancient ruins, awe-inspiring landmarks, the scenic beauty of the regions where our programs take place- we want to see it all!
In Action [photo]
Field schools are unlike any other educational programs. Capture the essence of field school life by sharing snaps of you and your field crew working hard and having fun.
Findings [photo]
We’re talking fossils, artifacts, evidence of glacier change, mosaic conservation efforts- share your shots of the research highlights or exciting findings from your field school!
Short Video
Create a short form video (under two minutes) that encapsulates the action, adventure, or everyday of your field school experience. You are free to get creative and take this in any direction you like. Think TikTok or Instagram Reel style!
GUIDELINES
✅ Eligibility– This contest is open to IFR students who have attended any of our 2024 field programs. Entries received by Monday, September 30 at 11:59 PM PST will be considered. You may submit as many entries to as many categories as you like.
✅ How to enter– Upload your photo(s) and/or video(s) to Google Drive and email us a link to socialmedia@ifrglobal.org. To be considered, your email must also include your full name and contact information, the IFR program you attended, your Instagram handle (if applicable, so we can tag you), the category or categories you are submitting to, and a caption(s) describing your entry or entries.
✅ Technical Specs– Photos and videos must be submitted at the highest resolution possible (minimum 12 Mpx for photos and minimum 1080p for videos). Photos must not have a date stamp and videos must not have a watermark. If you create your short video in TikTok or Instagram, please make sure to remove the watermark before submitting it.
✅ Winner selection– A panel of IFR judges will select the finalists in each category. Finalists will be posted on the IFR Instagram account individually during Fall 2024 and the engagement (likes, comments, and shares) on each post will determine the winner.
✅ Ethical Guidelines– By submitting your photos and videos, you confirm that they were taken in accordance with ethical standards, including obtaining necessary permission and consent. We trust that all images were collected with proper respect for the cultural significance of the sites and artifacts.
✅ Additional info– By entering this contest, you are giving permission to IFR to use your submitted materials and agree that they may be used for informational and promotional purposes. All photo and video entries must be new and original submissions. If you have previously submitted photos or videos to fulfill IFR scholarship requirements, please ensure you submit different materials for this contest.
