Overview

Get an in-depth understanding of how human interactions with the landscape has shaped the development of this extraordinary and historical area. You will come to understand the landscape, from the underlying bedrock and glacial landforms to the overlying soils and the flora and fauna they support, and how these resources have been used and shaped by humans across millennia. Combining field studies with laboratory work, you’ll piece together three different landscapes in three distinct locations, allowing you to appreciate the grandeur of Ireland. Explore raised bogs in County Offaly, karst limestone landscapes in County Clare, and iconic archaeological projects in County Wexford.

Program highlights:

▶ Read the Irish Landscape and its role in Ireland’s cultural heritage.

▶ Understand how human settlement and culture is formed and shaped by the natural environment, and how humans understand and manage their environments.

▶ Experience a wide range of ecosystems and culturally important archaeological sites.
